What Is Tempe(h)?

Tempeh is a traditional fermented soybean from Indonesia that is healthy, sustainable, and affordable.
Tempeh has been a staple protein source in Indonesia. It was first documented in the 1660s in Central Java. Tempeh is typically eaten as a protein component in a dish. It can also be consumed as baby food, snacks, main course, and lately dessert.

Compared to beef, tempeh has similar amounts of protein, energy, and iron, higher in calcium and fibre, lower in salt and saturated fat; is 4x more energy-efficient and 20x more emission-efficient; and costs 8x less.

Tempeh can also be made from 20+ beans, grains, nuts, and legumes.
